Hanahan is an area which is made up of two sections. The older section which, is close to the downtown Hanahan area and the Hanahan townhall, has some older, well-established communities with beautiful trees - some backing up to the Goose Creek Reservoir. The newer section of Hanahan is located over the Goose Creek Reservoir bridge and is mostly in the development of Tanner Plantation. This newer area is adjacent to the Charleston Naval Weapons Station.

The Hanahan area has moderate and high end homes available as well as some very inexpensive older homes. This area is central to about everything and therefore one of the most convenient areas of Charleston. One of it's most popular areas is Tanner Plantation - a large, newer area with many neighborhoods, such as Ibis Glade and Amber Glen.
